Ortho BME Laboratory

We want to understand how chronic joint degeneration leads to chronic pain and disability. We do this by examining the complex changes that happen throughout the joint (including cartilage, bone, and synovium), the changes that happen throughout the body (including immune modulation and changes in pain sensitivity), and how these changes affect pain-related behaviors (including how locomotion patterns and activity). We take a holistic view of joint disease with each trainee focusing on a unique physiologic system. Ultimately, our goal is to train the next generation of scientists that will ​change how we view chronic joint diseases and how we treat these disorders.
